Adding a Text Field Box for Products

I know this is posted serveral times in this forum, but I can't get any to work or the post are to old.

 

I need to add a text box for certain products so vistors can add a paint code color before checking out.

 

How can this be done easily. I am pulling my hair out for 2 days now trying what the other post say to do with no luck, and my client needs this.

 

This option might be a good one to add in future version of osCommerce also, I see alot of people having trouble with tyring to get this to work with no luck.
