Sendmail vs. SMTP

How come if I change the Email setting from "sendmail" to "SMTP" it sends duplicate emails each time a system generated email is sent out?

Which is the correct setting?

I figured it was SMTP which is why I changed it but then this little mystery began occuring. The only reason I tried to switch it is because it seemed like emails were being sent slowly so I went looking for the psosible cause.

'sendmail' is a native PHP function, while SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is another service provided by your hosting company (some don't provide this service). The drawback with using SMTP with osCommerce is if your SMTP mail requires a User Name and Password to send out mail - in which case you may be required to install a contribution which does that into osCommerce. This last depends upon how your hosts have set up SMTP services.

I have a server in and I set SMTP services in my server. How can I set in oscommerce Admin or another in catalog. I set it but I can not send any mail. Or customer send me any mail. it is not sent to me. There is a problem or less information in any place. Can you describe for me to set email options in oscommerce...please........

That is a question to do with how to set up your own dedicated server - and has nothing directly to do with installing osCommerce. You would be best to go to a forum that deals specifically with how to set up your own dedicated server properly.
