affiliate scheme?

I need to be able to track users who come from certain websites through the system, what they buy, etc so that commision can be paid based on order total (either total shopping cart or on specific products within cart)

 

Is this an affiliate scheme?

 

I've looked through the contribs and see a few there that enable affiliation betwen OSC sites, but this is not what I need as the sites wanting to be involved are not other OSC or even ecommerce sites.

The sites who join don't have to be OSC or ecommerce sites, that would defeat the whole purpose of an affiliate PROGRAM ("scheme" sounds too shady) don't you think?

- what do they need to join (website, e-commerce, etc)

- how is it managed (automated, manual)

- can anyone join or only select/authorised

- how easy to set up

- how easy to run

- do you (or anyone esle) has one I can look at to see working
