My whole website disappeared!

Hello,

 

I'm just getting to grips with my OS shopping cart and trying to add a cache folder, backups etc. Whilst adding download capabilities (following the pdf manual word for word) I decided to check what the catalogue entry looked like but when I pressed the "Online Catalogue " link the browser says it "cannot find server".

 

If I can access my admin panel it can't be the server and I saw the site running OK just yesterday. I've reset my index settings to default so its unlikely that I've messed them up but I must have done something wrong - does anyone have any ideas or should someone with so little knowledge on how it all works achive more by sticking my head in a bucket of water?

 

Basic help for beginners really appreciated!

I found it! - my .htaccess file was configured wrongly - my web support helpdesk told me to delete the file and my website reappeared!
