Looks like I'm going to have to code a module from scratch... any tips/suggestions?

My client has decided to use TD Canada's Online Mart to accept credit cards on his website (http://www.onlinemart.ca/EN/PaymentServicesFeatures.asp -> probably "Direct Interface") and there don't seem to be any contributions for it.

Can anyone give me some tips, or recommend another module I should start with and use as a basis for my coding? I know my way around PHP pretty well but I haven't explored osC's code to the fullest extent. Any tips/suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.
