Password protect your folders from your hosts administration panel.

Either password protect the admin directory from your host's control panel or use htaccess and htpasswd. There is a lot of info both in the forum and in general. htaccess is very easy to set up and use.

Hi,

I had the same problem so I tried to edit the htacces file.

It's working, I cannot access the folder of the administration panel. BUT I cannot access also if I give the right credential (username e password). Could anyone explain why?

Thank you.

If you tried to edit the file by hand its likely you have an error in there somewhere. Try using the link that McMuler posted above, or here is also another similar tool, http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/ Also don't be afraid to go to your web host for help, if they are a good hosting company they should provide that assistance to you.

Thanx For Reply.

I've installed this new administration panel ten minutes ago:

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...search,admin+23

I found it very useful, it ask an username and a password to get inside.

BUT for me is not enough :), I want to use the .htacces as well :D.

I tryed again, and again I cannot access. But I think is a server problem.

I've installed the website in a free server just to test it, I will try the .htaccess in another and better one.

Hope it will working, I'll let you 'now!.

Thanx for everithing!

Bye!

Yeah .htaccess is something actually very basic and should be available with all web hosting. The reality though is there are some hosting companies that I've encountered who do not make such things readily available. When shopping for a web host, that's one question I feel is always important to ask.

My hosting admin section does have this set up for password and such, I've done all the other suggestions, no issues with cache, temp internet files, etc.

And yet, when I type in www.site.com/catalog/admin - it does not prompt me to log in at all...hasn't for several days now.

It's weird and unnerving.

Has it ever prompted you for a login? If you have left your browser open after you have logged in, it will not prompt you again until you close down that browser instance. So if you have rebooted your computer and then gone back to your site admin area, and it does not prompt you for a password, then you have a problem.

That being the case, I would first try going back into the control panels tool, deleting the ID and password you had created and then re-create it, you might want to use a different ID just to make sure its completely different the second time around. If you are still having problems after trying that, contact your web host for assistance.

Tina,

No, it has never prompted me to login from day one.

I've been adding products all night and my eyes are "cottony" - I'll try your suggestion about re-doing the login info later on today.

Thanks!

Barbara
