Mediajuggle Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 desertdog, I don't mean to sound harsh but you should have really done your homework before deciding to launch an ecommerce store. Too many see this as an easy way to make money without really understanding that this is a busy. If you were opening a retail store, you would have done your homework about home much traffic and purchases you needed daily to remain in business. It seems that when people launch online stores, they tend to skip this step. 1. First of all, 600 unique visits a month is nothing. Definitely not enough to make a profit on unless all 600 of those visitors make a purchase. Which is unlikely to happen. 2. A store like Amazon.com who has over a million unique hits a day, out of those who visit the site only 10% make a purchase. And Amazon is on the high end, most store's conversion rates aren't that high so where do you think you'd make money on only 600 visitors per month? 3. You need to get the unique traffic to your site up to at least in the thousands per day before you start wondering how come people aren't purchasing. and the "addon" you were talking about is here: Ultimate SEO URLs http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2823 My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275

As i had said befor i do sell at the flee market and the web site is making enough to pay for its self, plus it makes a nice on-line catalog for the flee market coustmers. So i will keep it going till the point where it no longer makes money to pay for itself. The web site was a secondary thought, flee markets is where i started. Any ideas of what to do to get more traffic is surlly welcome, and thanking you for the link to that add on.. Desertdog
rommany Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Hello john As cartel said above you are a long way off before you start making real money from your store. Below is my stats for nov and i only get around 1 sale per day if im lucky. Unque Visitors: 2121 Number of Visits: 3295 Pages: 28061 Hits: 320950 Bandwith: (97.4 hits/visit) 1.11 GB So as you can see im a long way away in making real money from this. too. I would do a couple of things if i was you, ask people in the My Store (Community Feedback) area as i really think you need some help in that dept. Two, start adding your site to more directories eg yahoo, msn, dmoz and joe ant ect ect..most of the above ones you will need to pay for but that will pay off in the long run. Good luck

Good luck Ya thats what i just started doing last month, i did the froogle feed, helped alot, working on the yahoo and msn feeds as well. I also strated trading links. its picking up from whee it was, but ya a long way to go befor i can qiut my day job :) I have been getting a few sales a week, and i have a lil after paying for the site, so im not loseing money, still making money and the flee market coustmers like the idea they can order something and i'll have it for them their to pick-up, that way i take enough stock with me and they will get what they wanted.. Thanks again
Mediajuggle Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 it's a slow process... but if you stick with it you can wind up making more money from your site than from the flee market because of world wide audience. There are people here who are making a living from their oscommerce site. That's my ultimate goal as well... Good luck.... There are people here who are making a living from their oscommerce site. That's my ultimate goal as well... Good luck.... Well thanks for the comments. Ya i see its a slow process, and the word of mouth is also helping. I still have 15 years befor i retire from my DAY job so i have some time, This site is alot bigger and better then it was just a few months ago, and its still growing. Slow process sence i have to buy the jewelry and then resale it takes time to build up invortory. Not a huge problem with this product, only need to sell a few item to break even and the rest of that item is all proffet... Also thinking of adding another line, maybe rock t-shirts too. and other types of jewelry.. more wider range of coustmers that way. TY
Flotec Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I don't think you have to have thousands of hits to make a living of your Osc store. I have about 50 visitors per day and it's good enough for me. But then when each sale give me about 1000 dollars I don't need so many sales each day. You have to be patient. It takes some time to increase the traffic.

I sell lower ticket items so I need about 10,000 unique hits per day to make a nice profit. And i'm not there yet, but should be in about 3 more months...
