aubear Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Hi there, I would love to try to use osCommerse, but would like to customise a few things for my site - purely from a visual point. And I would love to install osCommerse locally on my PC and try a few things out before I'm ready to go live. I'm not a programmer so please exuse these 'basic' questions... I have had a ASP.NET framework installed on my PC before, now I've downloaded WAMP 5.1.5 and installed it - just ran the installer... but PHP pages are not recognised, Iget this error when I launch localhost, which is pointing to the 'catalog' directory of osCommerse: "Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory." I've changed the INI file so the register_globals is ON, restarted but still the same error. Basically, I want to install OC locally to test my changes. Is it possible? How can I achieve that? Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, aubear

Thanks in advance, aubear bit late for a reply to this since your post was months ago, but the simple answer is don't attempt installing php and mysql on your machine if you're a newbie. Way too much hassle. find some cheapo hosting i like compila.com their bargain plan which includes 1 mysql database is ?19 or so, and you can play to your hearts content, choose a useful domain and hide your work with an index.htm file. then you can use it when you've finished. btw, asp.net is a microsoft thing, php works well with apache, Linux. you can install php on windows, but i really wouldn't bother. good book,, php and mysql web development by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson. I started off just wanting a store and i loved creating so much I'm now half way through an It degree, so enjoy it!
