england921
I have had a successful install of OS Commerce with a few bumps in the road. I have since resolved those problems, however, my catalog page will not display along with any other pages in the catalog. Go here to see what I mean: http://www.weartheword.org/catalog/ I have combed the forums for a solution. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here's the bad news. This site is housed with Yahoo hosting. Is it possible to run this thing with a Yahoo host? Thank you.
england921
Hello: I submitted this question last week. I still have not received an answer. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
robert23
I've also got Yahoo Small Business and struggling with this. I've read some posts from a few people who have osCommerce installed on Yahoo hosted sites so I think it will work but the answers are very difficult to find. I too have combed the forum and also the web looking for a set of instructions applicable to Yahoo and haven't found anything yet. You are doing a lot better than I am. I looked at your site and like the design. I see that your shopping cart is installed but your site info is not showing up. I'm nowhere near the point of even getting osCommerce installed. I tried installing MySQL 5.0, apache_1.3.33-win32-x86-src.msi, and PHP 5.0.5 but nothing worked. Then I found out Yahoo doesn't allow .htaccess files which osCommerce uses. I uninstalled everything and tried XAMPP which has these services in one package. That didn't work either so I uninstalled it. I learned that with Yahoo you're supposed to go to the Web Hosting Control Panel and then click Create & Update and then click My SQL Database and setup a user name and password. I've done that but don't know how to set up the data base. I don't know for certain if I need Apache and if I do which version to use with Windows XP. I also don't know if I need to install PHP and if so which version or if that's something that's included with the Yahoo My SQL Database. Yahoo has PHP Editor, PHP functions and PHP/Perl Mail buttons at Create & Update and am not sure if any of these functions require the PHP osCommerce needs. I think these things all need to be done before uploading the osCommerce file to the root of my website via FTP but am really not certain about that either. The osCommerce instructions don't say anything about how to do this and Yahoo won't help you over the phone because they call this 3rd party software. Yahoo wants you to pay nearly $39.95 a month for their Merchant Solutions account and I'm not about to do that, the $11.95 a month I'm paying right now is the limit, considering there's other servers with decent service for around $8.00 a month. Yahoo does provide an e-mail address, [email protected] but they say responses can take up to 24 hours. I really don't want to try that unless I run out of other options. I, like you, am hoping someone who's been through this with Yahoo will be willing to help.
england921
Instead of fighting with Yahoo, I think I am just going to go with Level Ten Hosting since they are all set up to accommodate the store. They are cheaper too. Is that an option you can do too?
ozcsys
Instead of fighting with Yahoo, I think I am just going to go with Level Ten Hosting since they are all set up to accommodate the store. They are cheaper too. Is that an option you can do too? Good answer, there is no reason to fight to get your site working with yahoo or any other incompatable hosting company. If you have decided that you are going to use osC then find a hosting company that osC will work on without any major issues. Getting your store setup like you want it is going to be work enough, why fight just to get it up and going?? The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
robert23
Instead of fighting with Yahoo, I think I am just going to go with Level Ten Hosting since they are all set up to accommodate the store. They are cheaper too. Is that an option you can do too? That sounds like a good idea and I appreciate the lead. I'll check out Level Ten Hosting. I used Yahoo Sitebuilder to make my site and wonder if that means I'll have to redo the whole thing. Sitebuilder seems to have a lot of deficincies but I like the way you can drag pictures and text around. Is there a way to transfer what I've got and be able to edit it? I bought Microsoft Front Page 2003 about 6 months ago but only taken a look at it so far. I started experimenting with a free website where you don't have your own domain name and it's given me a chance to begin working with html. I'm learning slowly. Right now I'm just trying to get the servers set up and am really having a tough time with that. I'm stuck at the moment and have been posting at http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...ic=181991&st=40 I think osCommerce has been the toughest computer challange I've ever faced. Most of the people posting in this forum are way ahead of me on the basics.
