Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /english/index.php on line 13

I tried to change the front page so I can launch the store and I just wanted it back to the original setup. Now all I get for a page it the parse error line. I did use the oscommerce editor when this happenned but i am trying to fix it in notepad.

The problem is stuff like this:

 define('HEADING_TITLE', 'Let's See What We Have Here');

In this case, PHP is using the single quotes (') like "bookends". When you want to use an apostrophe (') in the text, you have to put a backslash (\) in front of it so PHP doesn't get confused.

 

So the example I used above would be fixed by making it look like this:

 define('HEADING_TITLE', 'Let\'s See What We Have Here');

The built in text editor removes those slashes unless you modify the code (there was a recent fix posted for this recently). Using Notepad or other text editor is your best bet to avoid stuff like this.

 

You'll need to look for apostrophes in any of the files you edited with osCommerce's file editor. There's at least one other case of this in the snippet you posted:

 define('HEADING_TITLE', 'What's New Here?');

and there may be others.

I'm real new with this, I fixed the ones I found but it still has the same error.

 

This is the default setup and I did a bunch of work on the catalog since my last backup. Is there anyway I could download this file or someone paste it to a reply so I can rebuild it?

At least I have a backup and a great starting place to learn these php files a bit.
