azimpact Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Hi All, I'm looking for a contribution that will change the way the page displays when clicking into a main category that has subs under. Right now, it shows a picture and discription of the sub and then you click into the sub. I would like it show products from the subs much like is displays when you actually click into the sub category. I've seen sites on this board doing that but none have been to clear as to what contrib they were using to do that. Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated!
azimpact Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 I've searched the entire contribution section and can not find a contribution to do this. I'm trying to find the conrtibution that did this: http://www.vedicbooks.net/masters-c-57.html In the click into the category with subs, it displays products from the subs instead of the sub pics. Anybody?
azimpact Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 So, nobody on this board knows how that was done or just not going to point me in the right direction. I know someone on here knows this and it is probably painfully obvious but I've now hacked at it for over a week and just can't nail it. I'm not asking someone to code it, just point me into the right direction please.
kirchenbauer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I read your post earlier, but didn't really understand what you are trying to do. I think you are trying to display one of your products that exist in a category when the categories are displayed, and the same with the subcategories. For instance, you are selling Shirts. Your main category is "Shirts" and you have subcategories called "Tshirts" and "Dress Shirts". You want to display a picture of one of your Tshirts for the Tshirt subcategory and one of your Dress Shirts for the Dress Shirt subcategory. Am I understanding you? Or can you post a link to your site?

For example, clicking into hardware: http://demo.oscommerce.com/index.php?cPath=1 Shows little pictures of the sub-categories and then you can click those to see products in those categories. In this example: http://www.vedicbooks.net/masters-c-57.html By clicking the Category Masters, instead of showing you little pictures of the 3 sub categories under it, it actually lists products within those 3 catagories. I'm trying to re-create that and get rid of the they way it displays the little pictures and goes straight to listing products. Does that make any sense?
kirchenbauer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Hi! Okay, that is actually a feature that is built right into osCommerce. In your Admin Control Panel, select "Catalog" and highlight one of your categories by clicking on the category name (clicking on the category name allows you to edit the category details, while clicking on the file folder takes you into the products for that category). Once you have clicked on the category name, off to the right will be some options. Click "Edit". You will be able to change the name, add a picture from your computer, and change the sort order of your categories. Most people just keep the sort order as "0", which leaves them alphabetized. If you have any more questions, let me know. :)

That just controls the sort order and does not effect whether or not it displays actual products or pictures for the sub-categories. Unless there is a special number to enter to do that.
kirchenbauer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 You should be able to click "Browse" and add a picture of your product. If you don't have the options to modify the title of your category, add a picture, and change the sort order, then you might not have the program installed fully.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to do: This is link into my site main category Documentary. Under the main, there are 3 sub categories: Presidents, Veitnam War and World War 2: http://www.mediatechnics.com/mediashop/index.php?cPath=27 I'm trying to get so that when click into the above Documentary link from the main page left column here: http://www.mediatechnics.com/mediashop/ , instead of giving the 3 little pictures, it gives a list of products within those 3 catagories like the new products page displays here: http://www.mediatechnics.com/mediashop/products_new.php Does that help?
kirchenbauer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I see what you mean. You don't want the subcategory picture to have a picture of your product you want all of the products to be listed. Instead of showing the subcategories, you want the products in those categories to all be listed. Are you planning to have the products for all 3 subcategories listed once you click on Documentaries? Meaning, together in one box? I know you looked at the contributions, but I think there is one that will do that. I don't know which one and I can't check right now because I just got 3 orders that I need to get processed ASAP. Maybe someone knows the contribution and can jump in here?

Yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm pretty sure there is a contrib to do it, but I just can't seem to figure out which one! Thanks for trying!
azimpact Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 Well, As I thought, it was so obvious had it been easier it would of reached out of the screen and slapped me. Simply copy your products into the the main category and it gets rid of showing the little sub cat pics and instead shows the products. Sometimes, what seems hard is right in front of you. I found this after Googling advance search for the forum. The item I was reading never came out and said this but the conversation going on in the article sparked the light and here I sit red faced an all.
rhodgkiss2001 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Could I double check something I have been trying to do? I would still like to have subcategories but, only on the left column. Is there a way to get rid of them kisted in the main box area? many thanks..
