How do I regenerate thumbnails?

Ive been using and loving osCommerce for a while but there is something I don't get... I have thumbnails on my site which are basically 80 pixels high. I'd like to have all these resized to be say, 120 high but if I just change the size in the Admin->Configuration->Images settings (Small Image Height), the thumbnails will be too low of res.

How do I "reload" or otherwise reset all thumbnails so I can show a BIGGER thumbnail to my users?

Thanks for any help. EVEN MORE THANKS for an explanation as to how the image system does this. THE GREATEST POSSIBLE LEVEL OF THANKS for links which explain this! :D

If you are using the default osC thumbnails then the resolution should not be an issue as you are really using the large image resized via html code. If you are using a thumbnail contribution with seperate thumbnail images and you find that the images are not clear enough then you would need to recreate and upload new thumbnail images.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Ozcsys,

Thanks for your reply.

I have to admit I'm not sure which image package I may have added over the last year. I suspect GD but not entirely sure. My product_thumb.php file has these lines which may provide a hint:

// imagecopyresized($tmp_img, $src, 0, 0, 0, 0, $_GET['w'], $_GET['h'], $image[0], $image[1]);

imagecopyresampled($tmp_img, $src, 0, 0, 0, 0, $_GET['w'], $_GET['h'], $image[0], $image[1]);

So the osCommerce admin interface lets me upload an image file where the image file for a thumbnail appears to be resized in the display process. An example "Click to Enlarge" image is

<script language="javascript"><!--

document.write('<a href="java script:popupWindow(\'http://purelyalpaca.com/popup_image.php/pID/193\')"><img src="product_thumb.php?img=images/item00010a.jpg&w=80&h=119" border="0" alt=" Adult Boucle Alpaca Hat " title=" Adult Boucle Alpaca Hat " width="80" height="119" hspace="5" vspace="5"><br>Click to enlarge</a>');

//--></script>

What I don't get is if I set the Small Image Width to 160 instead of 80 I get a too-low res thumbnail:

<script language="javascript"><!--

document.write('<a href="java script:popupWindow(\'http://purelyalpaca.com/popup_image.php/pID/193\')"><img src="product_thumb.php?img=images/item00010a.jpg&w=160&h=239" border="0" alt=" Adult Boucle Alpaca Hat " title=" Adult Boucle Alpaca Hat " width="160" height="239" hspace="5" vspace="5"><br>Click to enlarge</a>');

//--></script>

If I go and reload this image (for whatever reason I need to load a new named file, that's another question) AFTER setting my Small Image Width to 160 instead of 80 I can then get a nice looking thumbnail for that product. I have hundreds of products and really do not what to get the image, rename the file and reload it for each product.

Surely there is something I can reset or run to resample my current images for display in the desired larger thumbnails??!?

Thanks again for any tips!

surely I'm not the only one who needs to know this. Any help out there?

:-"

when I first used OSC it took me a long time digging through all the php and css to find the tiny spot where it let's you change the thumbnail size. I think there was a place where it had the actual numbers, but you had to go change a percentage on another file too... something wonky like that. I forget where that is. lol
