please help me.....IMAGE DOES NOT EXIST

Hi there. I'm totally new in oscommerce. I installed my 1st webshop and I ran into this problem I can't solve. Whenever I try to upload an image, it does not go up and instead of its thumbnail I see the text IMAGE DOES NOT EXIST. I saw older posts about this problem but could not find a solution in them. I was wondering if anyone of the experts would be so kind and help me with this. Thax in advance.

I know this is gonna sound a little silly, but did you make sure you placed your images in your image directory and uploaded them to your server?

the question is not silly. actually what happens is that in the admin area when I add a new product, at the "Products Image:" field I press the "Chose File" button. A usual window comes up which lets me chose a file from my computer. than I press the preview button and the product's page comes up but no image is there.

Same happens when I try to add an image to a new category. I checked the server but the image doesn't get uploaded. I changed the permissons of the image folder to 777 but still nothing.

I read on some forums that it's possible to upload my images via ftp and than manually associate them with my products, but I don't know how I can do this associaton..

Any help greatly apprechiated!

Ok, I think I've found the solution. It turned out that it only doesn't work when I try to use oscommerce on pages of free web space providers. They usually disable some php functions-they say for security reasons-and thus make it impossible to use such a complicated database on their pages. I tried many of the free providers and I ran into the widest variety of problems, usually I couldn't even install the store. In the end I bought some space from a provider and now everything works perfectly.
