Install Errors

Recommended Posts

Evening,

I am having a few problems after an install and the update of files. Due to a server problem, the whole website was lost. Os commerce was reinstalled then all the catalog files etc updated to fit the templates etc..

These problems can be seen at: www.1st-for-furniture.co.uk - to many to list here.

I would be very grateful if someone could lend some help.

Thanks.

Your problem is that the store is looking for all of your files on your hard drive.

If you've installed this on your hard drive with a server installed then uploaded it, then you need to change the location server on your hard drive to be localhost and NOT c:\ - then re-upload.

What do you see when you open up the tep_database-pr2.2-CVS.pdf file that came with your osCommerce download?

In which files does this need to be changed?

The files were just saved to the HDD and uploaded like at the start, but something has changed since they were burned to CD.

Thanks!

Hi cmckay,

Where you saved your files to wouldn't matter. If the files were pointing to "localhost" from your HD, then no matter where you would save them, they would "retain" the TOP directory structure of the site.

What did you use? Dreamweaver, FrontPage? Another?

"localhost" can be looked at like this...... although my web site is on my hard drive, it's real value is:

http://localhost/index.php or whatever the main page is. Jusrt because I have it listed as "localhost", if I were to save it to cd, or even upload it to the internet, it would automatically change the "localhost" to http://www.the-website-name.com or http://the-website-name.com .. Notice the www. on one and not the other. That part isn't really important right now, but you have to tell your program (HTML editor) where your files are located. They should NOT be referenced to C:\ but they should be reflected to localhost

Also take note:

On your hard drive you web site looks like this:

C:\DirectoryOfWebSite\index-file

http://localhost/index-file

notice the \ and the /. The internet uses the / while the hard drive references it as the \.

Although is's pretty easy to do, I would need to know your setup on your hd, and what (HTML) software you're using. But I hope I shed a little light on your situation.
