Jack_mcs Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 When you say your ranking is 0, do you mean you rpage rank or your index position? Are you using an entrance page on your site? spottedhaggis Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 o be honest, I am not sure. The google toolbar tells me ranking 0/10 where as other sites are 3/10 and 5/10 . The shop is in the root so no entrance page, straight into OSCommerce. I have done the submissions many times, and the only time it works is if I use adwords and I cant afford to use it right now. crafted4you Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I dont know what it is with google I dont think it likes PHP or OSC as I have done several sites in HTLM and they have all been listed within a couple of months on google but my OSC store was submitted about seven months ago and is done on a regular basis and we are still not listed but the googlebot has been loads of times, its just not listing us. I have installed the Header Tags controller and google site map but that doesnt seem to make a difference yet most of the other search engines have listed us (not very high but its a start) I dont know what it is with google I dont think it likes PHP or OSC as I have done several sites in HTLM and they have all been listed within a couple of months on google but my OSC store was submitted about seven months ago and is done on a regular basis and we are still not listed but the googlebot has been loads of times, its just not listing us. I've never really had a problem getting my sites listed in Google. Usually in about 2 weeks. It's MSN and Yahoo that seem to take a little longer for me. Also, I know a lot of people will tell you to get rid of the entrance page etc, but Google indexed my entrance page well before it did the Oscommerce part of site. Hey you can also use blogs to your advantage. I post in a bunch of blogs releated to my online business across the web. i make my username the name of my store: Musica360 and most let you add a url to your name as well. If you do a search for "Musica360" on Google you'll see that the blogs that I've posted in come up as well. This does two things: 1. to the people reading my blog replies, I seem like and expert (or idiot depending on who you talk too) in my field and gets people to visit my site. 2. Provides incoming links from the blogs to your site which the search engines pick up and helps to raise your relevance in searches. ccubed_99 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 .... Provides incoming links from the blogs to your site which the search engines pick up and helps to raise your relevance in searches. blogs are great as they have a lot of text... major brownie points the content is constantly changing... even more major brownie points people are coming to your site to read the blogs ... and thats a big deal so...if you don't have a blog what to do and this is basic stuff Have a page with substantial text lets say 50 to 100 words... your index or default page probably best but not necessarily the only page to do it on... Occasionally change that copy to keep the page fresh... Meta Tags. Use just a few relevant key words that show up in the Description meta tag The title 2 to 3 keywords are okay Your h1 tags 1 to 2 keywords and your copy... don't over do it... 3 to 5 times.. don't forget the alt tags in the image... But the bottom line is search engines love text..... always have always will Read, read, read, test, read, read, test, read, implement. Always back up your site and database before changes. Always back up on a regular basis.
