skase98
ALWAYS have a problem installing contributions? Is anyone else out there cursed as well? I read and read and read. I install and reinstall. And I have NEVER been able to get any contribution to fully work. The closest I came was IPN 3.1.5 and, at the end, it didn't work right. I'm wondering if there is some basic installation screwup I've made in the osC install itself. Does this seem likely? So far, I've removed every contribution I've tried because my basic store works fine. But I think I'm missing out on some good stuff.
Guest
all depends upon how you install. best bet is to get a code compare application, where the file you want to change is on one side and the file you are pulling from is on the other side. JazzMan_Jay
Hi Kathy, well I would say, it is like cooking. :) Some read the reciepes and it taste like hell, others make a 6 ways menu with 2 eggs. But do not resignate, like in cooking, the most important are time, passion, ingredients, and tools. Firts take your time, lay back and backup everything, always. Try "simple" mods, do not start with GIft-Vouchers on an already modified shop :) And prepare your tools such as a good editor (Ultraedit, Texpad...), and a comparaison software like KDIFF. You will see, after a week you will feel as you could answer questions in the Forum :) Enjoy what you're goint to learn, JazzMan_Jay
skase98
Thanks, John and Jay! I try to be very careful but I seem to be missing something each time. My store is fairly straightforward. I don't need reviews, I don't need ratings, etc. I'm only taking PayPal payments so I don't have all the extra modules. I don't do any fancy shipping things. It's so very VERY basic with virtually no code changes from the original osC 2.2 package that I could not understand how I could consistently fail to get the contributions installed correctly. I use Textpad as my editor but I don't have a comparison program - yet. Thanks for the advice and direction!
