Cache to true, good or bad?

Ive done some searching in the forums regarding setting the Admin/Config/Cache to true but have read both good and bad.

Can anyone give me the bottom line on what the differences are?

I know when I set it to true my SSL verification box dissapears and a manufacturers box shows up that when clicked on leads you to an Ebay search.

Very strange.
