mojo2185
Hey everyone, i'm currently building a shopping cart, and when visiting the shop after installation, i'm told the index.php file (/includes/languages/english/index.php) can be editing so the page says what you want. Is there a graphical way to edit this file? I tried loading it in Dreamweaver but the design doesn't show up, you can only edit the stuff in the code view. Any tips to make designing the layout easier? Thanks, -Mark

Before modifying your store much with images, and products, etc...go ahead and add all the add ons you want from contributions. I wish I started that way. dreamweaver will not display php in design view because dreamweaver is not a php program, it's html and css, but I do suggest using dreamweaver to make all add-ons and changes to code, don't use the admin to change code, you may regret it! Hope this helps! What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer. --Ken Kesey"
mojo2185
sorry for a lack of response, i've been busy with finals. ouch. thanks for the pointer, but a few more questions came up. originally i was looking for a way to easily edit the main page text (to avoid typing it into the PHP code and potentially screwing the entire page with a typo). but i think i found a contribution for it. probably a stupid question, but how do you download the packages for the contributions? i kind of got lost while sorting through all of the stuff on the simple template system (sts) contrib page and couldn't find exactly what to download. is there an updated page that has a complete install with all updates added in? lots of good info on this forum, i found a bunch of great tips for layout editing while searching around. Guest
The older and more popula Contributions all have many files. Look for one that says complete in the description. You can also go to the support thread for that Contrib and read up. If some version of it seems to have lots of trouble, you'll find out quickly enough. get the right tools and some experience and you won't need STS. Read my first blog entry for some beginner pointers. Then look inthe Knowledge Base (linked above) for much more detail. Oh, and document every Contrib and change you make to your store. i didn't and i wish I had!
