matteo72
Hi all, I am new in this business, I am a guy who would like to start an E-business ( importing clothes from Japan to Italy ) but I have no knowledge of E-commerce. I have done a non-commercial web site using Yahoo!Sitebuilder and now I would like to build this new site but I have no much free time and, as I said, no knowledge of programming. How can I do? How much time do you think it takes to create an E-commerce site from scratch if you are an absolute beginner? I was thinking about a basic commercial site, in two languages, with possibility of seeing a catalogue, uploading images and prices, a cart for customers and possibility of credit card transactions. strungout911
I'm new too. I have basic knowledge of HTML/CSS but not ZERO in PHP. And this is making this project difficult for me. I would suggest that you spend some time at least learning that. As far as not having much time for your porject, then I guess you will have to pay someone. Is it taking a lot of time to you to build your site? I was thinking that using the OScommerce suite should give the possibility of building an E-commerce site without much time and effort.. vr_driver
Do you have to learn PHP? Hi Guys, I'm new at this osCommerce package too, and I'm playing around with it now, and although i've got a programming (VB)/HTML background, i've found it relatively easy to implement. You may have to do a little php, but I would doubt it, it appears to me that a standard installation will provide just about all you need. I'm playing around with the multistore feature now (got it working), which was a challenge, but coming into this stuff with little or no mysql experience, I've surprised myself. Just follow the instructions etc, and you should be fine... heck, I was and I just guessed most of it! :) good luck! steve

I am actually in the medical field I have started site from scratch knowing absolutely nothing and thanks to all the amazing help from the contributors to this forum I have managed to build a half decent site! I have limited time (maybe 3 hrs a week) SO ITS IS POSSIBLE (but not easy) It is also quite easy to get hooked? Good Luck!!

HSMagic
I'm actually a "computer guy" by day and an "oscommerce retailer" all day long. PHP has a pretty steep learning curve, there aren't any WYSIWYG's for it. Knowing HTML has helped me, but just sitting in front of these forums and a text editer has been the most benificial. Read, search, get the software you need (ie. Kdiff to compare contributions) and go for it. I gave myself 2 months to build the store before going live. If I had to do it all over again I would have made it six months. Out of the box OSC works just fine, but if you want it to work "perfect" plan on some time!
