julielan
Hi, before I test a contribution, I always backed up my files. The files were backed up and when there were errors in my new installation, I went to the "Administration Tools" and restored the files and it did not restore. Is there anything I need to do to set up the backup files correctly? I also notice that in the backup administration tools, it states that "Best through a HTTPS connection". Does that means I have to be in a secure server to be able to backup my files? I'm very new at this area. Any advices are greatly appreciated. There are a few contributions that I would like to install such as changing the header to remove the OS Commerce images, rename the heading titles, adds-on a link box, etc...and now, I'm scared to death to do so, knowing that if things go wrong, I can't retrieve my files. Please help! Thank you. Kady :o
bobg7
The backup in admin only backups the database, not your files. You can 1) ftp your files to your pc 2) install a backup script 3) See your hosts control panel has a backup feature. Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going. Please help! Thank you. Kady :o That happened to me as well. I was going to install a contribution, backed up in the Admin backup, thinking I was all safe if anything should go wrong. The store got messed up and the Admin backup didn't work. It's a sorry situation and the top OSC guys don't seem to do anything about it. If you've installed a contribution that went wrong you could try and remove all of it from you files, if you succeed you site should restore, if not you may have to restart from scratch. It's not so bad the second time around is a lot easier and a lot faster. If you have a CPanel provided with your hoster, you may have Backup and you can do a full site backup there. Hope this helps. Beware of the Admin backup it's useless. B)
