Gift Certificates

Ok, so I've spent two weeks hacking and slashing my store to include all the things I've wanted to do since last spring except one. I'll release and promote the new site in early December but I really want to add Gift Certificates. I'm really happy with the store and I've done some serious surgery in the account and checkout areas. My brain hurts. CCGV looks like a very complex and tricky Contrib. Paypal offers a quick, easy Gift Certificate program.

Am I wrong about the difficulty of CCGV? (I've installed plenty of Contribs but it looks rough)

Has anyone used the Paypal Gift Certs? Any thoughts or direct experience would be appreciated.

i'm not sure how the Paypal gift voucher thing works but I'd assume the CCGV would probably be better for your customers since it's intergated into OsCommerce.

I does look daunting and I put off installing that for a while "just because"....

but it's not actually that hard at all and my installation on my heavily modded store went rather smoothly....

i Used 5.14

Thanks for the guidance! I went ahead and installed it on a dev site first and it wasn't bad at all. I think it will work fine on my hack/slash store. It is a really nice piece of codework and I'll find use for it to send customers lots of incentive cash.

I do think the customer side (creating and sending certifictes) is awkward. I'd prefer a one step process for them. I think I may generate the gift certificates on the frontside as products only (not tied to the voucher system) so I can handle the generation and distribution of the gift myself. I think more folks are likely to use it in my case if I do it tht way. I would probably build an attribute into them for mail vs. email. This way it will be just like any other gift.

By the way, for anyone reading this considering using 5.14, don't do the updates to the functions/general.php files. It breaks the store.
