Before I carry on merrily adding every product in my store to my <meta name="keywords" content="......

I thought I had better check that I am doing the right thing.

Some guy phoned me to tell me he could optimize my website and pointed out the fact that my keywords weren't up to much, but not wanting to pay him the ?3k he wanted to do it, thought I would have a go myself.

OK, here's what I am doing.....

<meta name="keywords" content="Card Making and Scrapbooking Supplies, 12x12 Scrapbook, 6x6 Scrapbook, 8x8 Scrapbook, Mini Craft Punch, Regular Craft Punch, Large Craft Punch, Big Craft Punch, Super Craft Punch, Super Duper Craft Punch, Jumbo Craft Punch, Acid and Lignin free Papers, Jolees Boutique Embellishment Stickers, Jolees By You Embellishment Stickers, Syntego 3D Sticker Embellishments, Making Memories Eyelets, Eyelet Outlet Eyelets, Happy Hammer Brads, Embossing Heat Tool Gun, Embossing Light Box, Brass Embossing Stencils, Sizzix Dies, Sizzix Machines, Quickutz Dies, Quickutz Tool, Embossing Powder, Embossing Stylus Tool, Mulberry Paper Flowers, Mulberry Paper Sheets, Photo Corners, Step by Step Decoupage, Peel Off Stickers, Outline Stickers, 12x12 Paper, Books of 6x6 Papers, 3D Foam Squares, Double Sided Tape,">

Am I right to just carry on adding everything in???

Thanks

Jemma

When you optimize a shop for the SE's, you actually have to optimize each page. Each page should have, at most, three keywords in that meta tag. If you don't have a meta tags contribution like Header Tags installed, then you are causing yourself extra work for less results.

hi

Its not just about Meta Tags, Its about content, layout and its what your customers are searching for. For e.g. my main keyword is Office Furniture, you would have thought that people searching for office furnitures would type this keyword and hey presto... Nope. they type in cheap office furniture, cheap office chair, office furniture UK and so forth.

What happens most of the time with the shop owners is because they know about the product/s they believe thats the keyword customers are going to type in search engine too. this is'nt the case.

So my advise is to find out actually what your customers are searching and how have they found your site. Also find out how many times that search terms had been searched in that particular month. Something like this from http://inventory.uk.overture.com is very useful.

I hope this helps. let me know if you need help with any more seo issues.
