oscommerce problem - nothing is responding

I installed the last version of oscommerce on a Fedora Core 4 machine with mysql 4.1.14 and php 4.3.11. Trying to install the oscommerce, I could not get past the 2nd step where you have to press the "Continue" button. When pressing it, nothing happend, the page with step 2 simply reloaded. Anyway, I created the database osCommerce manually, added the tables from the osCommerce.sql file, listed them, chmoded the ctalog file to 777m edited the configure.php files in /includes/ and in /admin/includes. Now everything is displayed but when selecting on a product I get "Product not found". When I go to register a new user, after I fill all the information fields and press "submit", the page simply reloads with all my info in it, withou the password though. When I go to /catalog/admin there I cannot edit, remove or delete a category for example.

 

 

I must add that I downgraded from php5 to 4.4.1 and now to 4.3.11 while trying to get it working. The address is www.kettler.ro/shop/catalog and www.kettler.ro/shop/catalog/admin . In the configure.php I entered the username of the database as being root and no password, as I did not set any db passwords. also as the db server I wrote localhost ... no errors that it cannot connect to the database appear. PLEASE someone take a look and give me a solution, as I am desperate.
