NilfixNI Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Hi there, I run www.nilfix.co.uk. Since the website was started, we have ALWAYS had a page rank of 0. This means that the majority of our time and effort is looking at ways to maximise PPC advertising. In a bid to change this, we recently launched a campaign to get as many legitimate back links to our website as possible as well as writing original content for the site itself. We sell Nilfisk products, and are the UK's biggest online trader in it. And yet our page rank is 0 and our listing is on page 6! I cant for the life of me work out why Google is penalising my site? We've never entered into any dodgy linking or exploting google (I wouldnt for the life of me know how to!) and so I cant think why we dont even have a page rank of 1! Can someone out there advise me as to why this is happening? I run another site called www.industrialvac.co.uk. Again, it has a page rank of 0. The only thing I can think of is my host (namesco) and use of a shared server. Am I being penalised for this reason? Any help is VERY much appreciated. I'm at the stage now where I'll offer a reward to anyone out there that can help me crack this puzzle. Many thanks from a confused and frightened web master Sam Downey

NilfixNI Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 That's the thing, over the past few weeks I have been actively trying to get my links established by having various articles, link exchanges etc with others. I dont understand why there are no back links into my site when I can see them (see my other site www.industrialvac.co.uk) When I search for Nilfix I'm number 1 on google, however do a search for Nilfisk and I'm not even under the radar. It's very infuriating.
NilfixNI Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 I should also add that my boss paid for a link on the following site: http://www.linfieldfc.com/ Not exactly a relevent link, but still a link none the less from a site with page rank of 5!
dandelion Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Have you submitted the site to the open directory project - dmoz.org ? I think that if your google rank isn't on the radar they don't list backward links. Links also have to link to you from a page that has a good google rank. If page one is a 5 but the links page that links to you is a 2 you'll get a 1.

If page one is a 5 but the links page that links to you is a 2 you'll get a 1. They call it a virtual wall, it's the home page and is regarded as a PR of 5. Have people had any luck with that Spider addition that google are currently doing a BETA for? It just seems to me as though the spiders aren't reaching into the Nilfix.co.uk site whereas Yahoo and MSN (.co.uk) I'm in the top 5 doing a search for Nilfisk.
doni Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 That's the thing, over the past few weeks I have been actively trying to get my links established by having various articles, link exchanges etc with others. I dont understand why there are no back links into my site when I can see them (see my other site www.industrialvac.co.uk) When I search for Nilfix I'm number 1 on google, however do a search for Nilfisk and I'm not even under the radar. It's very infuriating. I'm not sure how much you know about SEO, but forgive me if you already know this. 1. Ever heard of anchor text? This is the text people use to link to your site. On the linfield fc site, they link using the anchor text linfix - if you wish to have a higher page rank for the keyword linfisk, then you need to people to link to you using the text linfisk. 2. The links you see on Google using link:www.yourdomain.co.uk will only show the links that are significant. It will ALWAYS be less than the actual number of backlinks. 3. You said that you have tried to get better page rank over the last few weeks. You will need to wait about 4-5 weeks for Google to pick up any new link partners you have established. I have checked the Linfield Fc website and it had 18 backlinks to its index page. You will see that this pagerank is shared between five pages (it links to five pages from its first one), and this is pretty good for a homepage. 4. Remember - since you are being indexed, Google MUST already have at least one backlink - otherwise you won't be listed at all. 5. To improve things - ensure that all your link partners link to you with relevant text. 6. Make sure you don't miss a trick on deeprooting. So make sure you have something on the page http://www.nilfix.co.uk/nilfisk.html for example, This page may simply link to your index page. Google also sees a "-" as a space, so domain names are important when someone is likely to use two keywords. e.g. "nilfisk cleaning" when conducting a search. I don't want to muddy the waters with your brand, but I often have great success when I don't expect it by registered related domain names and interlinking these. For example, the domain name www.nilfisk-cleaning.co.uk is available. And for ?6 for two years I'd register it too if I were you.
NilfixNI Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 That's some absolutely sterling advice Doni. I'll get to work making sure that the word Nilfisk is the word that then links back into the site itself. I had thought that the word nilfisk merely on the same page would have the desired effect, apparently not then. No bother, will try and remedy this now. As for the deep rooting, I'll get onto that and make sure to do a few other words while I'm at it such as scrubber-drier and carpet-cleaning etc. Fingers crossed this has some knock on effect with Google and thanks very much for the advice. I've had some advice messaged to me via IM and I appreciate all the info people have to offer. Thanks!

♥FWR Media Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 This won't help. The code is not well formed with many basic html errors even with the most basic of doctypes. The most important of which being reported as .. end tag for "HEAD" which is not finished. Which in this case means a total absense of <title> and meta tags .. not great for a company wanting to list well in the SERPS. Guest Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Apparantly he really doesn't care cause there's still no title tag, no meta description, no keywords...nada, zilch, zip. I'll have a page rank of 2 faster than him. Not to get your goat Sam, but really, you asked for help, and the simplest thing you can do you haven't done yet. Edited: Oh...just saw this was an old post. My bad.
