Horizontal menus

I have been able to get it so my categories show up horizontally. However, I would like to have the sub-categories also appear horizontally under the main categories. Here is what I would like:

 

Category 1 | Category 2 | Category 3

Sub-Category 1a Sub-Category 1b Sub-Category 1c

 

Any ideas of how to do this?

 

Also, does anyone know how to get drop down menus working the STS templates?
