Guest Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I've read pretty much everywhere that online store owners MUST have an SSL certificate to inspire customer trust. Sorry to be such a noob, but here are my questions: :) Question 1: I do not store any credit card information; all CC payments go through PayPal. With this in mind, is SSL still necessary? Question 2: I've seen SSL certificate pricing ranging from $30 (GoDaddy) to $350 (Verisign) for a year. Why the big difference? Question 3: How does one go about actually installing (or whatever) the SSL cert? Will I need to change any osCommerce preferences, redirect any pages, take the site down temporarily, etc.? Thanks!
GraphicsGuy Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 You will find answers to most of your questions (and to ones you haven't thought of yet) in this thread: The SSL In OsCommerce Guide For The Innocent, SSL basics and how to apply to osC Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.
