ChrisJChrisJ Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 go to contributions and search for vger ... she has a fab register globals patch, should fix the issue fast Thank you for your suggestion. Can you educate me as to why, my catalog/admin worked fine for months and then today I get this: "FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!" Why would this happen out of the blue? What is a php.ini for? Thanks.

Why would this happen out of the blue? What is a php.ini for? Thanks. php.ini sets the values for the whole server. If you get this error message out of the blue, you should be very mad with your webhost. They have made this change and didn't care to inform you beforehand so you could have had the files already prepared offline and ready to be uploaded, so business loss would have been minimal. Disgusting bedside manners, if you ask me. :-) Monika addicted to writing code ... can't get enough of databases either, LOL! my toolbox: Textpad - Compare and Merge - phpMyAdmin - WS_FTP - Photoshop - How to search the forum Interactive Media Award July 2007 ~ category E-Commerce my advice on the forum is for free, PMs where you send me work are considered consultation which I charge for ...
ChrisJChrisJ Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 I've gotten a suggestion to add a Patch, yet the Patch says it's for New Installations only, and don't use the Patch if I have any contributions, which I do. I'm also told "the latest version of OSC doesn't require register_globals". Where do I look to find what version I have? I can't get into catalog/admin, so is their a file in File Mgr. I could view to see what version of OSC I'm running? What is the latest version of osC? Thanks. I llok forward to any help/suggestions.

You do needthe patch. If yu have a modded shop, use compare & merge or a similar tool. I used it for vgers contrib and was done in way less than an hour, page back up and working. Tak a backup of any file you are modifying, but I'm sure all will be well.

My web host has placed a php.ini file in my root directory and stated, "You can move this file into the directory where you run your scripts." In the php.ini file they have register globals ON. So, my questions are, if I add the Patch, where should I first locate the php.ini file? And, I should change the Register Global from ON to OFF, correct? Thanks again. I look forward to any help.
