More questions about Gift Vouchers

I read the install tutorial about 100 times. I'm a little fuzzy on something.

 

I understand that in order to create a voucher for purchase in the site I'm to start the item title with the word GIFT in capital letters.

 

My question is: if I create a voucher called GIFT10 (for a $10 voucher)...and someone buys it...can I put the item back in stock with the exact same name or do I need to call it something else?

 

Like, GIFT10A or GIFT10B or something? Or can I just sell that GIFT10 over and over and over?

 

Does it generate a new random redeem code for every person that purchases it?

 

Also, I'd like some opinions on what to charge for the vouchers. Do you guys charge the cover price for the $10 voucher or do you charge, say....$9?

 

Ten bucks worth of stuff for $9? Make it more attractive; know what I mean? :P

The gift voucher product is not real so you should never run out of stock. PLace the quantity at 1000 and forget about it.

 

When someone purchases a gift coucher, you have to go to admin and enable it or they can never use it. At that point, the code is created.

 

Like any pricing, price it for best sales. There is no right answer for this one.

Okay, but this just brings up another confusing part for me.

 

If the customer pays via PayPal, will there voucher be activated automatically?

 

I'm under the impression that the only vouchers I'll need to activate within Admin are those purchased via check/money order or cash.

No, they are not available until you make them available. So if someone purchases a gift voucher today and you wait till 2006 to activate it, then they will not be able to use it until then, regardless of the payment method. At least, that is how I have always used it. Maybe there is an option that changes that.

You say item title needs to have the word Gift in it,

I thought it is the item model that must start with the word GIFT.

Maybe Im wrong??

No, you're not wrong.

 

That's another thing I goofed up and discovered the hard way. :D

 

But, honestly, this contrib is really nice when you get it working.

Yeah I know what you mean, I am still working the bugs out of that contribution. The documentation with it is very hard to follow. And the thread? well forget it, 147 or sum odd pages to cross your eyes at. It is surely the hardest contribution I have installed to date.
