Is OSCommerce for me?

Hi

I'm a graphic/web designer and I'm about to give a quote to one of my clients for an online shop. I mainly do front end stuff, but I did one shop before using PayPal and PayPal's shopping cart. This time I'm looking for something a little more comprehensive and I have the following questions about OS Commerce before I download:

Can you integrate it with an existing website or do I have to use an existing template? I looked at a the 'live shops' and a most of them seem to look pretty similar.

Is it necessary for the OS Commerece logo to appear?

Is it quite user friendly for someone like me who is more on the design side with only a little back end knowledge.

Thanks very much!

You can make it look anyway you want. Although how you go about doing that is not a simple process for anyone new to the shop.

From my understanding, the logo can be removed if the shop is changed significantly in appearance. There is a page explaing this in detail in the documentation section above.

It's not user friendly and is not directly compatible with programs like FrontPage. That is not to say that it is too difficult to do. Most users start off with not knowing anything about it and end up making major changes. But it usually takes, from what I've seen, about three months to get to that point. Of cousre, that would depend on your level of experience.

macacomoco,

I'm coming from the same place you are. I'm a graphic/webdesigner and an amateur php coder who can usually adapt simple scripts to fit my needs. But the more I learn about oscommerce, the easier I'm finding it to make changes. I don't think you'll have many problems modifying the look and feel.

Though my current store, still has an oscommerce look (kinda the nature of a music store)...

the new one that I'm working on will look nothing like oscommerce..

then there are the two templating contributions that i've read about BTS and STS that you can always use... if you're not comfortable with your programming skills
