Extra filter options for product lists?

Hi,

 

I'm working on a video store and would like to offer the buyers an option to filter categories by selecting the media format, which can be either DVD or VHS or both.

 

Instead of creating extra top- or low-level categories for these two, and thereby possible redundancies if a title is available in both DVD and VHS format, I would like to add this as a filter on the lists, so that only those products are shown that are available in that format.

 

Does anybody know of an existing hack/plugin/module for this that I could implement, or do I have to code that from scratch and manually create the database tables etc.

 

I'm a oscommerce noob so any help is greatly appreciated!

There must be more people out there with the same wish!
