Featured Products

Someone else installed the OSC that I am working with. I believe they installed a Featured Products module, because nine products are listed on the home page and they are labeled Featured Products for the month of October. Unfotunately, I dont see what controls the products listed.

 

My questions:

 

1. Is the featured products something that is already built in to the OSC basic install?

2. If so, how are they controlled?

3. If not, then a Featured Products module must have been installed. How can I determine which module was installed?

4. I looked at some of the Featured Products listed and they looked very confusing. Is there a module that someone is familiar with that is easy to install? (Easy for me is a module that has GOOD detailed directions. I dont mind changing code in files, but if the changes are not labeled clearly or if the file being changed has already been changed frequently, I have a hard time determing just what should be taken out.

Thanks for the reply. I actually looked at that one, but there is so much listed, how do you know which one to use. The most recent doesnt have all the info, just changes.

 

Also, if I have featured products, then i obviously have it installed... why isnt it in my admin section?

Yeah, I looked there but I couldnt find anything. I see no reference at all to featured products and I am baffled as to how the program is deciding what products should go up there.

 

I have been thinking about switching to Zen-Cart because a lot of this stuff is built into the program. I always struggle with the contributions posted for OSC. Some have great documentation but others are incredibly confusing. If this Zen-Cart has all I need, maybe I would be better off putting my efforts into that. Has anyone heard anything good, bad or indifferent about this version of eCommerce?

Zencart is an oscommerce fork and is not allowed to be discussed in these forums. But what I read from forum members here, is that the community support is FAR LESS active than that of Oscommercce.
