janice171
Hi, i get this message when making a purchase in paypal (my only form of payment) "Although this page is encrypted the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party. Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?" what do i need to do to encrypt the pages??? thanks for any help. janice
JohnnyVegas
You need to contact you host and order an SSL certificate. This allows you to place pages under encryption. Instead of HTTP you will see HTTPS. A secure connection. Once you get the certificate you need to set up the values in OSC config file to reflact your SSL connection. Whenever someone gets to checkou and payment areas you site will automatically go into SSL (HTTPS) mode and secure all the information. I would never purchase from a site that does not have this. Many will not either.

janice171
I HAVE NOW SOLVED THIS. so the answers to my questions, just in case anyone else have these cocerns are: a shared ssl can be secure...it just leaves the www.sitename.com to the shared server name in the browsers address bar . this address is required in the config.php files and the 'ENABLE_SSL' set to true. correcting the config files corrected the paypal error pages too, so all i needed was the oscommerce paypal ipn 1.1 to get everything to work smoothly and securely. i'd be happy to help anyone who has this problem...pm me if i'm not on the boards. cheers to everyone that helped.
