No pagerank after 3 months.

Hi, I have had my site up and running for around 3 months now,

I am regularly having my site crawled by spiders, I have lots of SEO contribs installed, I have header tags controller set up, I have also manually added keywords to my categories to make them more targeted.

I also have numerous sites inking back to mine (not a great deal yet but this is one area I'm working on).

No matter what I have tried I do not seem to be able to get a pagerank.

Any ideas?

My site: JustOnlineShop

Thanks, Lee.

Hello

I've just tried your link.....didn't work.....but I am in China and quite a few sites don't work; It's a Nanny-State but there you go.

Anyway....you'll have no luck with Google for AT LEAST 6 months, so don't worry about that one. MSN takes an age too!! On the other hand Yahoo is very quick and very easy to hit the first page with only a few tweaks to your homepage....and trust me here, it's the homepage that matters!! I'd forget about the rest and focus on the most important.

If you were selling say, photos.....you need to mention it (and it's variables ie photographs, images etc and other associated keywords) as many times as possible within the first paragraph without sounding stupid. Many people will disagree, of this i'm sure...but for me it worked. Don't just write photos, photos photos etc... it doesn't seem to work. Also name your page with pretty much only keywords, and remember that your page title can be pretty long!! Anotherthing is to update your website regularly.......I left mine for only a couple of weeks and saw that i'd nearly slipped to the second page of Yahoo....I upadated a few times and hey presto; up with the big boys again.

Give it a go....it doesn't take long, doesn't take anything away from the look or feel of a page and sometimes it works; well it worked for me.

OK, links - according to Google you only have 6, 1 of them being from within your site, 4 being from oscommerce forums - http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=link%3Bww...GLD:en&filter=0

Yahoo has you with 600+ - http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=link%3Bww...eb-t&fl=0&x=wrt - but strangely rank your affiliate pages higher than your index page...?

Anyway, Google has been quite a while since their last update, so I wouldn't panic just yet. Remember that PR is only one thing to look at, and do not ever get to the point where your seo work gets in the way of your site looking good. My site has a homepage PR of 4 and outranks huge amounts of stores with higher PR on both competetive and non-competeive keywords, whilst the site that actually ranks #1 in Google for the term jewellery has a homepage PR of 2.

Anyway....you'll have no luck with Google for AT LEAST 6 months
um, i beg to differ - a link from a prominent well ranked site can leapfrog this arrangement very easily - www.logon.info launched in May this year and had a PR of 3 by June - just the way the update happened to catch it.

What I would personally be more worried about is the fact that the big G only has ONE page from your site indexed - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=sit...tonlineshop.com - you say you have many seo tools installed - have you got the google feed installed? This is an absolute must have and will get your site noticed very quickly. see http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...rch,google+feed

The rest is down to apparently minor tweaks and REALLY studying your copy on every single page. You need to concentrate on one major keyword/phrase and hammer it to death, but as I said above, NEVER let your seo work get in the way of a nice, friendly, pleasant to look at and easy to understand site. Having a million visitors a day is great, but if they all arrive and look at the first page, say Yeuch and go away, it does you no favours and will just cost you a crap load of bandwidth! ;)

Please note - if I have suggested a contrib above, it doesnt mean it will work! Most of the contribs are not ones I've used, but may be useful for your particular problem....

Have you tried a refined search? Chances are your problem has already been dealt with elsewhere on the forums.....

if (stumped == true) {

return(square_one($start_over)

} else {

$random_query = tep_fetch_answer($forum_query)

}

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply,

I am actually in the process of updating my page design as it is very basic at the moment, I am fairly confident it will be a massive improvement when done.

I do actually have Chemo's xml sitemap installed which sends google an xml sitemap daily (this has been implemented into my site for at least 2 months now).

It really is starting to boggle me.

Yours has to be the first site i have heard of with this contrib running and only 1 page in the google index....very strange. I would really work on your inbound links though

Hi Lee, you have some references around the web you could setup the index page a little better. Currently shows no robot tags and no author meta tags. There are quite few duplicate links 20% of total links. Also try to improve the alt text for the images/links by matching them to your main keywords.

One other thing is the left navigation is typically seen by seo before the main page content. So try to recude the left panel a bit, from the manufacturer's list and search box (you could move them on the right side)

Thanks for both of the replies.

Mark, do you think the right column would look too full if I was to move the manufacturers and search box over? It is a really good suggestion and I would like to streamline the design of my pages anyway but I'm worried it may over fill the right column.

I have considered moving the search box to the top right corner of the page but I still need to look into how to do that.

Also I'm not sure of what relevance the manufacturers box really has to a customer so an option would be to possibly remove it altogether?

Thanks, Lee.

Lee, if you look at the STS (Simple Template System) contribution, I think you will find it to be something you could use. With STS you can move boxes anywhere on the page you want or remove them altogether without actually touching and coding.

I personally don't have a reason to have a manufacturers box so I have removed it completely from my site. I think it's probably only really useful for electronic sites and such.

Good luck! (Took me about 3 months to get a Google ranking of 3 on my site...now if I could just figure out how to make it go higher...lol)

You could move the best sellers and specials on the left. They are more useful. Then move the manufacturers, quick find, Affiliates on the right side.

BTW your links manager you should use html static links instead of the redirects for regular view too. Link partners aren't too happy to see redirection there. (Although it is converted properly when a spider comes along to a static link).

Hi Autumn,

Thanks for the suggestion, I have already looked at the template contibs but I have the problem that my site is live and I also have a lot of other contribs installed, I don't actually think it is possible to implement the sts contrib on my current store incase it clashes with my contributions already installed.

To move boxes is actually easier without sts than with in my humble opinion - simply ope includes/column_left or includes/column_right and cut the line relating to the box you wish to move, then open the other column file and paste the line back in. Dead quick, dead simple, and wont muck your site up or cause you to lose any visitors - next time they click a link, the box will simply have moved from one side of their screen to the other. :)

Hi thanks again for the replies and help.

I have now removed the manufacturers box, changed the specials and bestsellers over to the left column, and the search and affiliates over to the right column.

Mark, would you suggest I remove the link contribution I am currently using and install a different one?

Thanks, Lee.

No the contribution should be ok. I use the same one I think (but modified it so it will display the hard links for my partners) If you disable the links counts from the admin panel should show the hard-coded urls I believe.
