Guest Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 HI There Everybody... Now for a really dumb, but sincere question about EU VAT tax charging contributions and Zones:... Please bear with us, here.. 1. We will be selling a "service" from the Czech Republic, but you can use it many places and we cannot effectively 'track' where it is 'used'. We 'thought' that we basically have to charge tax on everything because it can be used here...or partially, and we expect most users will be "local, here," at first. Because of this, we don't want a stupid arguement with the local tax people about 'online sales tax.' [That is a 'job' for Brussels people and politicians in general.] It really seems 'not worth it'...! Does this make sense for EU osC shops? What are others using osC doing? Our VAT is 19%, higher than many...but in the end, who cares much? We will have very small customers so 'VAT reimbursement' is not an issue. What is the 'recommended answer' for this, please? 2. What Zone setup should we use, please. It is not clear in the doc we have found inside the system. The choice of... The "Czech Zones" contribution file shows old 'county' zones (long ago used for license (automobile) number plates (now useless for today's tax purposes, but do we need it inside osC?..&why?) The VAT tax here is uniform, nationwide...but all over the EU the tax is different in each country. You can use part of our service here and travel and use more, 'elsewhere' - including in 'ROW' 3. Our osC installation still shows FLORIDA...will it crash if we erase FL and don't put something in the zone 'hole'?? 4. geo_zones is a wild label... What should we do here, please? 5. What do we do with the various VAT packages/contributions for the EU, please? Some recent ones are in French, et c'est tres bien ('and it's OK'), but what should we really use??? ... Sorry for being so profoundly 'dumb' about these special contributions, but... It is very very confusing...we thought we just charge the 'local tax' and pay it... What is normal practice in the EU community for this kind of thing, please? What are YOU doing if you are 'based' in the EU, please? Many thanks...
