Hosting Pics on Separate Server

Can anyone tell me why this slows things down so badly? It works, but it's painfully slow.

Thanks!

Are you referring to why is it so slow when pulling pictures in from another website or server? Probably depends on if that particluar server is slow (and if other people are pulling in from those same pictures) and the fact that you are pulling information from a different location than your where your website is.

Just a guess.

I want to host my pictures on a different server due to bandwidth issues. However, when I do, the page loads very slowly (not just the images). I had read in other posts that this would happen, but I've never seen an explanation of why.

In my mind, the php script simply builds an HTML page that contains image tags. As far as the script execution goes, I can't see why the location of the images makes any difference. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Its because of the way the pictures are used..

In HTTP first off a connection is made to your server by the client... then for every picture you have a seperate connection must be made from your server to the server with the pictures hosted on... if you have 100 pictures on a page... 100 connections must be made.

If you have bandwidth problems then upgrade your account or change webhosts.. bandwidth limits shouldnt be an issue in this day and age.
