bluew4 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I have been trying for a week now to add a contribution to my store. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...all/search,gift Instruction read: 1. Download your entire /catalog/directory including all files and subdirectories. Questions- 1. where are the /catalog/directory 2. how do I download. 2. Make a bakup of the entire/catalog directory including all files and subdirectories. (system backs up twice a week). 3. Run the excutible included in this archive. Question- where are the executible and how do you run them. 4. Tell it where the /catalog/directory is to be modified. I don't have a clue! 5. It will process your entire /catalog.directory and all files and sufolders and then generate a patch.log file within the /catalog/folder. You may view the fog for process details and also see where the errors ar if there were any. I guess this happens after it tell it where the /catalog/directory is to be modified - where is that. 6.upload the/catalog/directory and all files and subfolders back on your server via ftp. - ftp please explain where that is and how to use it to "upload" 7. Make a backup of your database then import the database changes from the sql file included in this archive. where is database and how do I import changes 8. Done! Now test Please no laughing, if and when I catch on to all this - I'll beable to progress. Quote
Guest Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I would love to help you but it sounds like you might need someone to help you work on your site because there is some basic knowledge you will need (e.g. ftp) and it sounds like you are not up to speed. I know there are some people on these forums that deigns people's websites for pay so you might want to contact them. Or you might want to go to the library or Barnes & Noble and start reading up on this stuff. As far as your catalog directory. it is where you installed it at. Did you install oscommerce yourself? If not ask the person who did where the directory is at. Most install it in their root directory. As far as ftp software if your looking for something free that is not simply a trial that will expire, I reccomend FileZilla. (Search Google). You'll need your ftp info from your host. It should be ftp.yourdomain.com and you will need a username and password. After that it's pretty easy (drag and drop). You can back up your files, replace files, upload, download, basically everything you need. This will make it really easy to install contributions. Just remember don't get too overwhelmed. These forums are great when you feel stuck. Hope this helps! Quote
