myflooringconnection
Hi, While i was playing around with my site to customize it i messed it up so bad at some point that i can not get it back to where it works properly. So i think best to do is to re-install a resh copy of the OSC. However i do not want to lose all my product database or the images for these products... How do i go about doing my reinstall and bring my OSC to its initial installation without losing my database and images? Best Regards

♥peterpil19
The BEST way to fix your problem is to locate the problematic files and replace them individually. That's why regular backups are essential. However, you can make a backup of your database (easy to do if using phpadmin or easier still if your server uses CPANEL). Then, make a fresh install and restore your database and images directory. If you decide instead to replace every single file like you suggested, be sure to leave the original includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files (or make sure to re-enter your database connection details into the new ones if you override). Hope this helps! --Peter P.S. When you say you messed your site up, how bad is it, is it anything specific? Sometimes, one little simple error in one file can make it look like the damage is a lot worse then it already is. Guest
I am looking at the same issue, but do not know "how bad" is "bad." Is there a way to back up the page structure, texts, plugins being used and pictures? ...or is this a perfectly silly question? We have lots and lots of contributions in our system and the question begins to be asked by a programmer "are there too many in there"? What is the downside of lots of contributions inside? Will osC every 'choke' on its own structure, or is there a way to innoculate it against 'contribution flu'? It seems a pretty wonderfully 'tolerant' system and of course Apache is 1st Class, too... Reality is that reinstalling everything is or will be a nightmare...again. ugh... What is the best recommended way to transfer it off of the construction server into the SSL based operating server? ...intact... without reinstalling from zero and tweaking everything for weeks? Many thanks!
