Guest
Glad they review these before posting . . . forgot to include URL, which is kind of essential. http://oilsofmandarava.com/catalog username is tester password is fun I tested this on my Mac and it appears okay, but I don't have access to Windows browsers other than IE (office prohibits downloading anything). Basically I need to know if the right navigation column is too far to the right in Firefox, Netscape, etc. on Windows like it is in IE. (I know it looks awful in IE.) Thanks for checking out my store . . . be kind, it's my first foray into e-commerce. thanks j
BearHappy
j, Tried the site using Firefox and honestly it looks better than it did in IE. Nice site, the header may be a little large for some people on this forum. At 1024x768 resolution it does take up half the page which could be used to better promote your product. I thought your pictures looked great and the site was was easy to navigate. Clicking through however, I found that the site felt a little dark for the product you are selling. Great site!!! Guest
Thanks so much for looking! I know the header's huge (I'm a photoshop geek at heart) but I gotta go with what the client likes, and she loves it. Interesting about the dark part - do you mean literally screen-wise or thematically? If you mean screen-wise, I only noticed that too when tested on a PC. On my Macs it's super bright - the background is actually a blue pattern and not black like it showed on my PC. Need to fix my Mac gamma to be more PC friendly. thanks for the input :) j oh yeah, is the right column centered in Firefox and/or Netscape? Bit dark for me too - colour wise but easy to navigate. The white background of the products if very bright next to the dark blended colours - maybe change background to creamy beige colour??? Anyway - I liked it.
Guest
Thanks! Good point about the white contrast - it's the only thing that's white in the whole store and could definitely be modified. My main concern is that the header images for shopping cart, products, search, etc. are hanging off the right side of the center image when in other browsers they're centered in the darker brown column. Fortunately my client uses a Mac too, so she can't tell the difference. I'd use transparent PNGs if IE supported them and then you couldn't really tell. I guess we designers can only dream for IE7 . . .

Header images looking fine to me in Firefox 1.0.7 I agree with the bit dark for PCs, and strong contrast with white comments. It would be nice to see some product images on the home page to counter all that text. Very impressed by the quality graphics.
gpineda8
Yes, add some products to the front page and fix the alignment of the info boxes header images so they do not overlap to the border. Then they will totally blend in to the right column. It is dark. graphics are cool though. Kinda makes me think back alley way in Morocco or something. Please keep in mind, I've never been there and that is just my perception. A+ though. ♥peterpil19
Hi, I really like the site! It has a very comforting feel to it, perhaps due to your use of soft colours... It feels weird though using a category menu on the right hand side rather than the left, but I'm not sure if that's only because I'm used to osCommerce where category menu is generally on the left side, so I'm not sure if this merits any further investigation... The only thing I can see which detracts from the overall design, is the footer. I don't think the dark blue contrasts well against the dark creamy brown, and the fact the osCommerce banner doesn't really fit in there illustrates this. Anyway, good luck with your site, I'm sure your client is and will continue to be thrilled with the work you are doing. Guest
Thank you! The only reason I chose that blue and brown is because the client wanted the site to match her products - the bottles are dark blue and the labels are brown. I think I just need a good few hours to sit down with my friend photoshop and tweak the colors and brightness with a different gamma so it flows better. And figure out how to get the right column to look the same on all browsers. And about the banner, I didn't know I could get rid of it, I thought I had to keep it there! I don't like it either. That's next on the agenda when I get home from my "real" job. Thanks for the input! j
