Advanced Search or drilldown?

I'm looking to build a site with over 1500 products and I think the best way to search what you are looking for is to add more fields to the product page and insert keywords e.g. type, size. colour. location, etc.

 

The search page (or infobox) would have a number of dropdown menus or radio buttons with the same field names to select and drill down to the products.

 

Would that be the way to go about it? I have searched the contributions and there does not seem to be anything which fits the bill.
