Novice looking for advice in seting up e-commerce site

Hi I am a novice to website design but would like to open an ecommerce website selling "industrial electrical components" I have been looking to buy and download an osCommerce template however i dont know what i am doing. I have a small budget so i would like to do most of the work myself

 

Which Template format is best; Front Page? or Dreamweaver? which is easier to use for a novice?

How hard is it for a novice to convert a template into a personlized website?

where do i start?

 

I would greatly appreciate any advice or tips

Before you buy a template, download and setup the software on your local machine. You may discover that you don't need a template. If you purchase one later, you will be much better equipped to make your changes if you already understand the software.

Also, if I may add, if you purchase a template, you may find that it may be difficult for people on this forum to help you because your files, code etc may be too different.
