theroo Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Hiya. I'm a bit new with this so please bear with me I installed oscommerce without SSL using cpanel. Will it be possible at a later stage to use SSL? What actually does installing SSL option on do? I did this and it basically changed many links (like signing up option, account.php etc.) to https, which then meant that those file paths it was trying to find didnt exist beecause they were not under the path https. How do, or where do I put these files so that they can be reached by https? Is there a folder where I put files to be reached by the https? If there is, wouldn't that then break all the links to my original oscommerce directory? Many thanks Joe
wizardsandwars Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 You have 2 options. Buy your own SSL. This will require that you purchase an SSL from a third party, and you will have to ask your host to install it. It will require a dedicated IP, which you will purchase from your host. The SSL is normally about $50 per year (in the US), and the dedicated IP is normally about $1 more per month, although I've seen alot more charged. The second option is to ask your host if they offer a shared SSL. A shared SSL will make the URL change form your domain to the shared domain, but it should still point back to your site. In other words, https://secure_server~yourdomain should point to http://www.yourdomain.com. Once you have your own SSL, or have an account set up on the shared SSL, you can ENABLE_SSL variable on, and put the correct SSL domain in, and it should work just fine. No need to copy any files anywhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
