philcassell
I realized that my last postings title was not properly titled and I do apologize for that. This post is more informative and has a solution. I have added my question here with the solution to those who are running Cpanel. When I would go to my osCommerce Administrator Control Panel I would not get prompted for a username or password. When I installed it externally (ie download the file from osCommerce and uploaded to my server) the .htaccess file was just the example .htaccess file we see floating around this forum. When I installed osCommerce from Fantastico it will secured my osCommerce control panel. I was looking that the .htaccess file and this is what it now read AuthType Basic AuthName "OS Commerce Administration" AuthUserFile "/home/mydomainname/.htpasswds/test/admin/passwd" require valid-user Here is what they replied with. Once again please note that this is for those running Cpanel AuthName is just a caption which will be showed on the password box. You can secure the folder from control panel: 1. Login to Cpanel 2. Enter To Password Protect Directories 3. Select the folder you wish to protect by clicking on its name or open a folder by clicking on its icon. 4. Enable 'Directory requires a password to access via the web' 5. Put something Protected Resource Name (That's Auth Name) 6. Click Save 7. Add user/password in the respective boxes. I, like most people overlook what our Web Hosting Control Panel offers. Cpanel offers to password protect your directories. Please look at your control panel as it may offer the same or a similar function I did this and there were no issues. I think that this should be added to the Knowledge Base as it is most helpful
