rikpotts Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Hi, Ive got OSC installed and have been starting work on my site but its time consuming and I cant sit on my stepdads office computer for more than an hour or so. Its the only comp with an internet connection. Im kind of getting the impression you can install a program which makes your comp a server so that you can install OS on your comp and use offline. Am I correct in thinking this? Ideally what I want to do is create my website on my laptop, transfer it onto the PC then upload. Sorry to have to ask a question which is probably quite common, I spent quite a while doing searches on the forums but didnt really get the answer I was after. Many Thanks Rik

rikpotts Posted October 8, 2005 Author Posted October 8, 2005 Ok, Ive got xampp installed and have put the catalog folder into the htdocs folder in xampp directory. Ive gone to http://localhost/phpmyadmin and need to create a new database. I have created a database but am unsure if ive done it correctly. Immediatly after creation I get the oppurtunity to 'create php code' and 'create new table on database'. Do I need to bother with any of this? After having a go at creating a database and then went to http://localhost/catalog/install The install began but I got stuck straight away on the database import section. I cant work out what the 'database server:' should be. Can anyone help me! Ive not installed OSC before, luckily it came with my host package so is a matter of clicking 1 or 2 buttons! Many Thanks Rik NEVERMIND, I found the answer in the forums. Ive just learned how to do advanced searches! Stopped me from getting 800 pages of results! I needed to use localhost, root and no password!
