Can one merchant account handle several website payments?

If you have just one merchant account to handle Authorize.net payments, for example, can that account handle payments from several different websites? Or would you need a seperate merchant account for each website you have?

 

If one account will work, how do specify which website the payment is for? Are there any questions I need to ask potential companies before applying?

I have 3 different stores (1 miva and 2 OSC) using the same merchant account / gateway setup. The only trick is how authorize.net sends confirmation emails and the such - they don't say which site it came from so you have to be a little careful there.
