Guest Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I'm looking into getting SSL, now before I ask dummy questions let me tell you what I do understand about it and whether my misconceptions are correct/incorrect one could tell me otherwise. My understanding is there are various types of SSL certs available some that only deal with the TLD itself or wildcard versions to deal with the TLD and its subdomains. My question is this: I want to use SSL on 2 domains, possibly 3, do I need 1 SSL cert for EACH domain?
GraphicsGuy Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Each certificate is specific to a given domain. You are correct that wildcard certs allow for multiple subdomains, but are still limited to one domain name. From what I have read on the certificate authority sites, for businesses that manage 3 or more domains they have PKI programs that are designed to make getting and managing multiple certificates faster and easier and, reportedly, more cost effective. If you are planning for 3 domains then you may want to look into those. Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.
