ctroyp
During install of osCommerce, I entered the root user and password for the first database user. When it asked for a second user, I tried using another user and the install would not accept it. I made sure and used the correct credentials... To confirm, these are users as entered into the users table in the MySQl database, correct? I use am using phpmyadmin, fyi. I am unsure as to why I could not use this second user??? ♥Vger
The User Name and Password that you need are for MySQL access and they will either have been provided to you by your web hosting company or else you will be able to set one up in your web hosting control panel. This is different from 'Users' as in e-mail addresses on your system. Vger

I access the db using phpmyadmin and there is a 'user' table with the appropriate users applied, including root. The problem is, I can use root to during the osCommerce install, but not any other users. I have tried another user in the mysql 'user' table that has the same permissions as root, and the osCommerce install will not accept it. This is why I wonder which user table the install is looking at???
♥Vger
This is not an osCommerce issue. The problem you have is to do with running your own server, and this is not the forum to get help with that. There are specialist forums which deal with hosting and you would be better off posing your question on them. I am not trying to be rude in any way, it's just that recently there have been a large number of posts on this forum to do with running your own server. Unmanaged dedicated servers are cheap, managed servers are not - but you wouldn't get these problems with a server that has been set up for you correctly. Vger I don't believe that I am asking a question that has to do with running my own webserver. That has been taken care of. If osCommerce is accessing the 'user' table for a particular user, and the particular user is there, I see tis as being a osCommerse issue, in some manor--respectively. I honor your opinion about DIYers, but I don't think that is the issue here. What that tells me is that anyone that hosts their own website with osCommerce functionality, then they cannot look for support here. Wouldn't you agree? Again, it seems that this is an issue between osCommerce and MySQL. If not, then I am totally in the dark.
ctroyp
Vger, I hope you didn't take me the wrong way in my last post. I am just trying to figure this issue out. Obviously, if I don't, I am going to have to use another solution, and I don't want to do that because users speak highly of osCommerce and I know it is just a simple stumbling block. I have posted another issue about the admin cp not showing up. Well, to say the least, I am just sitting here waiting for any sort of insight to these problems. Any help is appreciated.
