Hello,

#1

I just installed osCommerce and when I got to the end of the install, I tried the Catalog link and I could acces it, but I cannot access the admin control panel by http://www.mydomain.com/catalog/admin/. Any idea why?

Also, I had to temporarily enable register_globals in my php.ini. I want to turn this off due to security reasons. I have found a lot of info concerning this, and I even installed the patch that was available. Nothing has worked. When I replaced the files from the patch, I first set disabled register_globals, then copied over the files. After that, I restarted the httpd service and could not get to the install page...it was blank. Anyhow, I reverted back to the old catalog and admin files and went on with the install with register_globals enabled. Now I would like to find out how to turn it off and still be able to use osCommerce.

Any help is appreciated!

Someone has mentioned that my version of PHP may be a problem. I am using PHP5.0.5.

Which are you using?

I am in the same situation, can do everything but get to the admin area. I am on a W2k3 server, I added the contribution Access Admin 2 but that did not work either. Seems several are in this situation and it is probably an easy fix. I am excited to get this working, someone please help.

Well, I finally figured it out, my fix was I had the wrong configuration in the /admin/includes/configure.php file. I fixed the paths and all is working now.

Is this similar to what you have?

  define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/catalog/admin/'); // absolute path required
 define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/www/web2/web/catalog/admin/'); // absolute pate required

If you have the ability to restart httpd then this is either a dedicated server of your own or else a Virutal Dedicated Server. So it may well be that your server is not set up correctly.

Could you please provide more insight because I don't know what would have been different during the configuration of the server?

This forum is for osCommerce support, but more and more people are choosing to have self-managed dedicated servers. We can't help with problems relating to the correct setting up of dedicated servers.

I just don't see what the issue could be with the server setup. You have not offered any reasoning that this is a server setup problem, but rather an issue between you and someone trying to run their own webserver. I must say, you are the first that has not been willing to help with some of the issues I have had in this process. Everything has been virtually seamless until now, when I tried installing osCommerce and I can barely get any help...why? I truly don't believe this is a server setup problem, but maybe a conflict as to what osCommerce can support.

Does osCommerce support PHP 5.x?

Is there anyone else that could assist me with this problem?

I don't know why I am being discriminated against just because I run my own webserver...It would be different if I asked a question about how to setup a router to forward http requests and my problem is nothing of the like. There are a lot of good services out there that use this same method and it is my complete intention to provide the same great service to our online community...

Thank you to anyone that can assist.
