Some enquires over the osCommerce

Dear All,

 

Hello! I am new here and I am new to osCommerce.

I just get to know this software by chance when I meet a website which provide free online store functions and domain name.

 

I would like to know if I want to setup an online store with osCommerce. What should I know?

Because I am a layman in programming. I know some html, javascripts though. :blush:

Where should I start? Domain name, Space or self-maintained server?

 

 

Because I have no experience in development. How long does it take in general to complete a functional online store with osCommerce?

 

Any suggestion and input is appreciated.

You need a host that supports php and mysql. Be sure they have recent versions. There are a few out there using versions from several years ago. Many hosts that offer the above also offer oscommerce (a self-install option). Once the shop is installed, you need to add your products and change the settings to your own (store name and email addresses) and you are pretty much good to go. The shop will function as an online store.

 

However, most people decide to make changes at that point to give the site a different look. That can take quite a while. You don't really need to know programing to make changes to the shop. The changes are simple in most cases but they can take a long time to get the shop where you want it. I think and average of 2-3 months would be accurate for most new shops.
