glitzco Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Hi all, I've tried to install osCommerce - and I cannot get pass the pre-installation stage, i've read the Quick Install guide repeatedly, changed file permissions, etc etc, without any success... basically, i get a 404 error: "The request URL/install was not found on this server" (i've tried numerous times using "my-server.com/catalog/install", "my-server.com/install", i've even tried "my-server.com/oscommerce") I've uploaded the "admin" directory to my server's root directory. From the install guide by Vger, it refers to changing permission to 777 for admin/includes/configure.php & includes/configure.php- although when i extracted catalog, there was only the admin directory... to try remedy this, i copied the includes directory to the root directory, so in effect i had admin and includes at the root directory... STILL no success... pls desperate for help.. using a linux server, with php 4.3, mysql 4, apache 1.3.33
♥Vger Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Okay, if you install into a folder then you url would be something like http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog/install (catalog being the folder. If you install into the root (no catalog) folder then the address would be http://www.yourdomain.com. I don't know what you mean when you say "to try remedy this, i copied the includes directory to the root directory". If you loaded the files/folders up into the root of your web (no 'catalog' folder) then both admin and includes should have been in the root anyway. If you installed into the root then all the contents of the 'catalog' folder are uploaded to the root, but not the 'catalog' folder itself. Vger

Vger what i meant was, within the catalog directory was only the admin directory... the includes directory is a subdirectory of admin (admin/includes/...) so i moved includes so that it would be on the same level as admin directory (which is at root) - from what ur saying, includes should be on the same level as admin?? coz when i extracted catalog, only admin was a subdirectory... any ideas vger? thanks
