oldskool Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Does os commerce need to be installed under either windows or linux or either? Our current host uses windows......... Thanks for your help.
♥Vger Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 osCommerce will run on either, but there's no doubt you'll have less problems running it on a Linux/Unix based Apache web server. Vger
Guest Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 osCommerce will run on either, but there's no doubt you'll have less problems running it on a Linux/Unix based Apache web server. Vger Hi...interesting... Thanks... We have a testing/development server which is not secure on Apache (at one local provider) We also have an SSL equipped MSSQL server which was planned for another software package which we tried before we found osCommerce. (at another local provider) It was running fine, but we hit European bank credit card security limitations which we can solve in osCommerce...thankfully! (We abandoned BVCommerce for that and language character display limitations.) You say we can run on either server type, but... OK... Why wouldn't we finish our development work and simply copy it over onto the MSSQL server which is ready to roll. Please give us a blow by blow 'this is why not to do that...' kind of explanation. Hassle and cost are issues here....but if there is a good reason for tearing down the MSSQL, sure...instantly! Please teach us 'why'.... ...sorry for the tough question... I haven't a clue, but I have to tell people 'why'... Thanks!
♥Vger Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 How about this? 1. The basic install requirements of osCommerce - doesn't run on MSSQL! Vger
Guest Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 How about this? 1. The basic install requirements of osCommerce - doesn't run on MSSQL! Vger That is good enough for me! Thanks! We will order then to tear out the old installation...simple. We were planning to do it, anyway, but never knew 'why.' Now it is "crystal clear"... This is lightyears better than what we had before, too! I am using as much OS as we can...and the people are nicer, too! OsCommerce is the answer we were searching for... ~~~ Thanks for the succinct 'usable' answer! Ciao... Charles ...so, .....Have a great day! B)
